As the name suggests these shirts are the common day to day shirts that only carry one color and has no 'oomph' due to lack of uniqueness. They fall under the category of basic dress shirt and colour and they can be used to either add to or take away a certain feature from an outfit. The difference between the plain dress shirt and the customised designed shirt is that it lacks the necessary detail found on a tailor made shirt.
Clients seeking a bespoke dress shirt usually ask for a three button collar along with French cuffs as this produces a certain image. Basic dress shirts are normally found with two button classic and angled barrel cuffs. Higher thread counts are found on custom made shirts, their counter part on the other hand are generally made up of cotton.
Plain dress shirts can be found in the most common of colours white or blue. Both colours represent the most traditional and commonly used colours and were at one time used to separate socio-economic strata. Basic can also include grey shirts or red shirts as both add certain characteristics to a simple white shirt or blue shirt.
