Twill Dress Shirts

Twill Dress Shirts - A Good All-Rounder

One of the characteristics that distinguishes the twill dress shirt from other shirts is the weaving pattern that has been adopted to form a diagonal parallel rib on the fabric. Apart from this, there is more texture to the overall fabric and this gives it more body without adding extra weight to it. A twill fabric that has not been woven is still smooth and one will note that it is a lot lighter than oxford fabrics and broadcloth fabrics. However, a woven twill fabric is a bit heavier. Denim and tweed are the most common twill fabrics.

The way in which the weft is passed dictates the overall presence of the diagonal ribs on the dress shirt. The difference with the Oxford weave is that only intersecting weaves are formed as opposed to  weft  or the thread  that used under the wrap in another technique.  The direction of the weave is governed by the numerical indicators such as 2/1 and 2/2. The 2/2 for example is used to indicate that the weft passes over two wrap threads and under two wrap threads. On the other hand, if the indicator is 2/1 then this means it is a weft that passes over two wrap threads and then under a one wrap thread. Based on the specific descriptions and techniques, the overall look and feel of twill fabrics is usually spectacular.

Presentation is also another characteristic about twill dress shirts. Front and back sides are left off in plain weave dress shirts. The name that is given to the front side of a twill cloth is ''technical face''. When people by a dress shirt that was made using this technique they will notice that the pattern on the  technical face is a lot more outstanding and very attractive. The striations of the base of a striped dress shirt can be enhanced using twill fabric.
