Herringbone Dress Shirts | Traditional and Smart

The herringbone dress shirt falls under the category of twill, the only difference is that a v-shaped pattern on the fabric is a lot more outstanding. This can be achieve by changing the direction in which the twill weave is being done. A traditional twill weave has two distinctive characteristics: the diagonals are parallel and the striations are following a certain pattern . Due to uniqueness of the pattern of a skeleton of a herring that emerged from such technique the name was used to differentiate it from other forms.

Dress shirts are not usually made from the herringbone techniques as this is reserved for suits and outerwear. This type of fabric is suited for solid colored shirts. The difference can be seen both visually and tangibly between an oxford shirt and a herringbone shirt.

The weave gives the onlooker the impression that he/she is seeing a finer and carefully done finished. The herringbone fabric may appear to be thicker than the Oxford shirt, but the real difference lies in the fact that the former is smoother than the latter and thus gives off a smoother appearance. Another aspect to bear in mind is that twill fabrics are usually water resistant and this can be both an advantage or disadvantage: this really depends on the situation itself. However, a dress shirt that is bought on deeper and non-obvious details is acquired based on taste and preferences. Though both Oxford shirt wearing executive and herringbone dress shirt executive are distinct in their personalities, the latter shows this difference even more by trying to be different from the traditional customs.
